About Us
Capland Speech Therapy Center opened its doors in 1953 as a small program dedicated to helping local children find their voice. More than seventy years later, we're still here — now serving individuals of every age across Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, and the surrounding counties.
We provide diagnostic evaluations and individualized therapy for speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Every client starts with a comprehensive assessment so we understand exactly what the client’s communication level is before we build a treatment plan based on our assessment. From there, therapy is tailored — not templated.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our mission has never changed: quality care should be within reach for the people who need it. Also, financial assistance is offered to patients presenting financial need.

Who We Help
Communication challenges look different at every age. Find where you or your loved one fits — we'll take it from there.
Children (Birth to 5)
Early speech and language delays are one of the most common reasons families call us. If your child isn't talking yet, is hard to understand, or seems frustrated trying to communicate, an evaluation is the right first step. Early support makes a measurable difference.
School-Age & Teens
Difficulty with sounds, following directions, expressing ideas, or stuttering can affect confidence and classroom performance. We work with school-age children and teens to build clear, confident communication.
Adults
Voice problems, stuttering, apraxia, and communication difficulties don't stop at childhood. We provide adult therapy in a private, respectful setting — including alternative communication systems for those with significant speech impairments.
Stroke & Neurological Recovery
After a stroke, brain injury, or a diagnosis like Parkinson's or ALS, speaking and swallowing can change overnight. We provide aphasia, dysarthria, cognitive-language, and swallowing therapy to help rebuild those skills.

Assistant
Errin is a native of Port Arthur and is a 2011 graduate of Memorial High School. Errin has worked in the medical field in a variety of front office positions for over 5 years. Errin joined the center in March 2026 and enjoys meeting new people and will greet you with a welcoming smile upon entering the center.
Fonda Bourque
Medical Billing
Specialist
Fonda earned an Associate’s Degree in Medical Office Management from Coastal Carolina College, Jacksonville, North Carolina. Fonda has over 35 years of experience in medical billing including state and commercial insurance carriers. Fonda joined the center in April 2026 as the Medical Billing Specialist and also assist with AP/AR functions.
Kayla Dugas, M.S., CCC-SLP
Speech-Language
Pathologist
Kayla earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from Lamar University in 2013 and went on to complete her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Lamar University in 2015. Kayla is licensed/certified with the American-Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and the state of Texas. Kayla has been practicing at Capland Speech Therapy Center for 11 years, providing speech and language services to both children and adults.
Alyssa Little, M.S., CCC-SLP
Speech-Language
Pathologist
Alyssa Little graduated in 2016 from Lamar University with her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. She continued her education at Lamar University and graduated in 2019 with her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. Alyssa is currently licensed with the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and the state of Texas as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Alyssa has been at Capland Speech Therapy center since 2019 and enjoys treating and working with both children and adults with a variety of speech and language disorders.
